What are "spread of flame" requirements?
Here at Décor, we often get asked lots of questions regarding spread of flame.
Does it just apply to the surface of the panel? Can it be achieved by lacquering the face of the product? Surely it applies to the front face, not the product/panel as a whole?
To put it in very simple terms, the actual words “spread of flame” are misleading. What is being referred to is the building control requirement, which is a fire classification given after the full product assembly has been tested including the substrate and build up, not just the spread of flame over a surface.
Testing needs to be done to the EN13501 standard, and the result will be a classification, for example, C-s3, d2 or B-s1, d0 etc.
